"This Time" I want to make a difference
Maggi was one of the high school students who traveled to Rwanda this spring with the team from Kanakuk Colorado. She returned home a young lady with a broken heart who did not want to sit back with only memories. More than ever she wanted to do something to make a difference.
I had the privilege of talking to her shortly after her trip. When I heard her say, after past mission trips she wanted to help, but had not, I challenged her to host an event to benefit KAAC~R.
Weekly we receive emails and phone calls in our office, from people who want to be a part of the work in Rwanda. The #1 thing we ask for is prayer. And second, I challenge them to spread the word by hosting an event or fund raiser to share about KAAC~R.
Maggi, was the first to take my challenge and run with it!
We sent text and facebook messages brainstorming ideas. She was on the beach in Florida and I was at my desk in Missouri - no grudges held - and this is what she came up with...She would have a party where friends would come to her home, share a meal, play some games, have a chance to buy a raffle ticket AND hear her share from her heart about her time in Rwanda.
She graciously invited me and my family. Although we were not all able to attend, Jonathan was able to be there. There was a time when Maggi stood in front of her family, friends and neighbors and shared from her heart. I received an email last night from her expressing her excitement over the success of her event. She had not ever put together something like this and was so happy with how it turned out!
She also shared with me that she is not too comfortable with public speaking, but she allowed the Lord to guide her words. Her main goal for the event was to expose her friends to a world that is so much bigger than the town in which they live. SHE DID JUST THAT! Her friends were exposed not only to the work that the Lord is doing through KAAC~R, but to the giant heart of a recent high school graduate. A young lady who is out to make a difference and is doing it!
Maggi, Jonathan and I wish to thank you. We know that the kids in Rwanda do too. MURAKOZE, MAGGI, MURAKOZE!
